Biofeedback

A number of biofeedback devices was proposed using experimental and theoretical results in sensory system and movement control studies.

The new revealed evidence of the possible transference of an artificial sensory information through the vestibular pathway by the galvanic input enables to propose the biofeedback for correction of the gait and the posture for persons with movement disabilities. Another possible application of this device could be suppression of the sensory conflict symptoms.( V.Goussev, I.Orlov, S.Dolgobrodov Suppression of the sensory conflict status using biofeedback information channel. Proceedings of the 1998 2-nd International Biomedical Engineering Days, IEEE Catalog # 98TH8327, p. 23-32 )

The theoretical study of the learning process was carried out on the human involved in the control of an inertial object displayed on the screen. According to this task the human was considered as an operator in the biotechnological system: human-machine. As a result of so called "ill problem" solution the control criteria were reconstructed which were used by each operator to perform his control task. The reconstructed criteria can be used as a tool for professional estimation of operators as well as for training to show them in the biofeedback the most efficient way to learn required skills.( N 752458 - Bull. of Inventions of the USSR, Authors: V.Gusev, J.Shapkov, K.Shatilov, T.Makarevich - A device for performance efficiency estimation of operators in control systems. )

A new device for estimation and training of vestibular functions in the human was proposed which was believed to be constructed as a set of three movable rings being placed each inside to other and spatially controlled by the human rigidly attached with the inner ring. The controlled rotation of each ring enables to generate any 3D arbitrary rotation of the human in space. The human is asked to keep the given space orientation in presence of the given unballancing external input being able to add his own control to the ring rotatation. The human control as the biofeedback to compensate external disturbances is analysed and used to evaluate the current status of his vestibular apparatus or to train him to avoid the sensory conflict status.( N 1234866 - Bull. of Inventions of the USSR, Authors: V.Gusev, V.Kisljakov - A device for training of the vestibular apparatus. )
